The AS/CS degree focuses on the foundations of many of the computer science disciplines. These include a variety of programming languages and provides a basic understand of how computer systems work. Topics in networking topologies are included which provides the foundational understanding of how hardwired and Wi-Fi networks operate. Cyber Security is also included as it has become central to maintaining security and privacy in our technological world. An AS/CS program is not complete without studying the Principles of Managing an Information Systems - providing understanding of the particular roles of Information Systems staff and End-User activity in the development and maintenance of computer systems.

The Mission of Computer Science (CS) within the School of Business, Economics, and Technology is to strive for educational excellence in the instruction of high quality CS programs.

Program Objectives

1. Lead the advancement of computer science, computer information technology, and cybersecurity through education;
2. Prepare students for Christian participation in a diverse and digital society;
3. Educate students in best practices of the represented CS discipline;
4. Integrate the latest research into the curriculum;
5. Foster the development of problem solving and communication skills as an integral component of the profession and encourage lifelong learning;
6. Provide quality learning experiences through effective classroom and virtual practices, adding active learning styles of teaching, and provide the opportunities for meaningful interactions between students and faculty.
