Mass Communication Minor - Sports Broadcasting

Mass Communication Sports broadcasting minor is a program designed to lead students in learning how to work in a sports broadcast environment, focusing on telling stories and creating industry-standard athletic productions. Students will have to learn to work as a team while learning the technical side of broadcasting and the challenges of operating in an athletic production setting.

The program is designed for undergraduate students that are looking to go into the sports broadcasting field, whether it is in front or behind the cameras. Courses will give students the tools to handle any number of jobs while on a sports broadcasting crew, whether it is in a studio setting or in a remote location.

Objectives of this program include:

  • Students will learn to work together as a team to complete a common goal, which is completing a professional sports production that tells a story with minimal mistakes.
  • Students will learn what a professional sports broadcast should look like and how to create a professional broadcast.
  • During this program, students will learn and train for all possible positions on a broadcast crew so they are prepared for any position they might be asked to handle in a professional setting.
  • Students will learn how to tell an effective story with video and audio elements using techniques that are industry standards.
