FIN 386 - Advanced Financial Topics in Wealth Management Credits: 3
There is a fundamental difference between the role of a money manager and a financial planner as it pertains to the management of assets. Money managers are professionals responsible for making decisions regarding the selection of stock, bonds and other asset classes for a portfolio. The money manager offers the client an expertise, philosophy and style of management. A money manager may not know the goals and risk preferences of the investors. The money manager’s sole focus is the portfolio. A financial planner’s focus is on client goals; i.e., the application of the financial planning process to the design, implementation and management of a clients’ portfolio in a manner that will best meet the client’s goals within the constraint of their risk preferences. The wealth management process is focused on the design of a client specific plan. In doing so, the planner is concerned with goal setting, data gathering identifying financial (and non-financial) issues, recommendations, implementation and periodic reviews and revisions of the client’s plan.
Prerequisites: 2.8 GPA, C or better in BA 324 and FIN 410
