NUR 411 - Professional Nursing Identity

Credits: 2

This course focuses on the acquisition of nursing professional identity in baccalaureate nursing practice. Using the foundation of the nurse as a servant leader, the four domains of nursing identity will be integrated with the nationally publicized nursing scope and standards of practice and the nursing code of ethics. The course emphasizes nurse identity as an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion and the professional’s understanding of social determinants of health. Learning activities emphasize the nurse’s accountability to self, society, and the profession of nursing.  Reflection upon own personal development and professional practice is accomplished through the completion of a professional portfolio and scholarly inquiry.

Prerequisites: Pre-requisite - NUR 411 is planned to be offered concurrently with or following NUR 410 which is ordinarily the last course that should be taken prior to BSN graduation. Exceptions may be made by the Dean or the Director of the RN to BSN Program.
