This course offers a global perspective of French cinema from its invention by the Lumière brothers until contemporary times. The course will underscore the development and impact of various cinematic genres (comedy, drama, documentary) and movements (l’avant-garde, la Nouvelle Vague) on the French-speaking world. Alongside these goals, students will learn basic vocabulary and concepts of cinema.
