ENG 316 - Misogyny in the Age of Suffrage

Misogyny in the Age of Suffrage studies the most famous canonical works of the most famous canonical authors of the Modernist period (1914-1945), alongside and alternating with works less canonical and less famous of the same period- the former written primarily by men and the latter written primarily by women.  The course will focus first on the definitions of Modernism set out by male modernist authors and critics at the time and then identify how these criteria view and depict women; it will then compare these to works to those by women during the same era.  This course may limit its content to novels, short stories, plays, film, or offer smatterings of all genres.

Prerequisites: ENG 111  , ENG 112  , and ENG 210
