ENG 385 - Genre Literature

Credits: 3

This course studies traditionally ignored popular literary genres. Students will examine the split between canonical and popular literature to see how recent critical approaches (such as cultural studies or postcolonial theory) are expanding the definition of what counts as “literature.” Possible subjects might include detective stories, humor, fantasy literature, or the graphic novel. Students may take the course up to two times with different subjects.
