Students may pursue an Associate of Arts degree by completing an additional 6 hours of a foreign language.

The Associate of Science in Social Services is designed to equip students with the foundational knowledge and philosophical skills necessary for meaningful careers in various social and human service entities. Rooted in principles of understanding, empowerment, and advocacy, this program provides students with a robust understanding of human behavior, crisis intervention, marriage and family dynamics, and addiction. 

Program Mission Statement

To prepare students to assist individuals, families and communities from diverse social contexts through advocacy, encouragement, care and support.

Program Objectives

  1. Develop an understanding of human behavior: Enable students to analyze psychological principles, developmental stages, and socio-cultural influencers across diverse populations and contexts.
  1. Acquire crisis intervention skills: Equip students with the ability to assess crisis situations, provide immediate support and stabilization.
  1. Explore marriage and family dynamics: Enable students to examine diverse family structures, interpersonal relationships, and cultural influences.
  1. Gain knowledge in social support and advocacy: Provide students with an understanding of social systems and support structures to assist those living in difficult circumstances.

General Education for Associate Degrees: 20 Hours

Required Courses: 24 Hours


Human Performance Course Required: 3 Hours


Take three credit hours from any Human Performance course.

Public Health Course Required: 3 Hours


Social Services Elective Option: 3 Hours


Take one course from the below list: 3 hours


Electives: 7 Hours


Take seven credit hours to reach the required 60 credit hours for Associate degree.

Total: 60 Hours
