Purpose
The purpose of the Mass Communication Program is to enable students to achieve competence in all areas of mass communication including broadcast and digital media, film, journalism, and public relations by developing an understanding of the purpose and function of mass communication in society and by developing the skills necessary to work in those areas. The program promotes standards of academic excellence, lifelong learning and continued scholarship in mass communication and related fields to prepare students for the workplace and graduate studies.  Studies in both pragmatic and academic courses allow students to fully realize their potential as servant-leaders.
General Education Requirements
All students with an area or major in the Department of Mass Communication, must take MAC 120 or MAC 140 as part of their General Education requirements.
Additional requirements for Mass Communication
All students completing areas and majors must complete an internship requiring three credit-hours.
Areas and majors must also compile a portfolio of work completed during their respective programs. Minors are also encouraged to do so. The portfolios will be prepared in MAC 490 Senior Portfolio. Thus, MAC 490 should be taken near the completion of the respective program. Complete requirements for the portfolio may be obtained from Mass Communication advisors.
