ENG 642 - Maligned Modernism

Maligned Modernism studies in depth those authors of the modernist period (1914-1945) whom anthologies, for various reasons, routinely ignore or whose works are represented only minimally. The course will focus on the definitions of modernism set out by modernist authors and standards of literature established by New Criticism and then attempt to identify these elements in the works studied. It will then, repeatedly, ask the question why these works are, after all this time, still glossed over or ignored entirely by the canon.
