ED 500 - Human Growth and Development

This course is designed to familiarize pre-service teachers with theory and practice that identifies strategies for promoting the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional growth of children and adolescents. It helps one come to a broad conceptual understanding of the field of child development and provides one with a broad sense of how and when children develop various abilities. Three core developmental issues will be examined - the relationship between biological and environmental influences on development, universality and diversity of developmental changes, and the qualitative and quantitative nature of developmental change from a chronological perspective.
