CS 627 - Web Concepts for Managers

Credits: 3

Businesses, the world over, rely heavily on the content of their webpages to market their products/services. While researchers have shown the importance of aligning business strategy with ecommerce adoption, little has been done to inform managers of how it all ties together. Managers, responsible for defining and carrying out business strategies, are better able to manage end-user expectations by achieving a clearer understanding of some of the intricacies of web content. Customer Relationship Management, as an approach for winning, retaining, and servicing customers, is thus improved by those managers that have a firm grasp on both the human and technical side of the web. This course focuses on factors that contribute to well-developed webpages beginning with the study of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and culminating with the development of a static website. Discussion forums will be paramount to sharing an understanding of current HCI issues in website development and how they may be addressed using a simple set of programming tools (e.g. HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript).
